Assisi - Orvieto

Offer Image
Leave the crowds of Rome behind and travel to the quaint, historic villages that make up the countryside of Italy. Head north and see Umbria and Tuscany, visit ancient cities, and learn about the wine production for which the area is known. Enjoy guided tours of Assisi and Orvieto and learn about another side of Italy.

Travel to Assisi and Orvieto from Rome

Depart from Rome and go north through the scenic Tiber Valley. Stop at Orvieto, populated since Etruscan times and annexed by Rome in the 3rd Century BC. The town features incredible gothic architecture, and you'll get a chance to see its iconic cathedral, built in the 14th century. Continue from Orvieto through the rolling hills and vineyards of Tuscany. Tour the region that produces some of the most famous D.O.C., or quality controlled, wines in Italy. Enjoy a local lunch and eat the traditional foods of the region. Your Rome port tour takes you along the banks of Lake Trasimeno to the town of Assisi. Once there, your tour guide will talk you through the historic streets of this beautiful and picturesque town, including St. Francis of Assisi's birthplace, the Church of St. Claire, and St. Francis's childhood home. Your tour of Assisi lands you at Townhall Square, where you can see the Roman Temple to the goddess Minerva, the People's Palace, and the Town Hall. You'll have a chance to see the magnificent frescoes and paintings of the Basilica of St. Francis before heading out to the next stop. Move on to Santa Maria degli Angeli, a lovely town in which St. Francis of Assisi died.

Step away from the hustle and bustle of Rome and spend the day experiencing the history and beauty of Umbria and Tuscany. Tour the country and relax as you ride through incredible scenery, learn about the wines of the region, and walk through historic villages.
